RMC Sport: Maignan to sit out Gibraltar-France due to calf discomfort

By Isak Möller -

Mike Maignan experienced calf discomfort during yesterday’s training session and didn’t finish with the rest of the team. As a result, the AC Milan goalkeeper will miss out on France’s game tonight.

Maignan struggled with a serious calf injury in the middle of the 2022/23 season but fortunately made it back in to help Milan in the Champions League. It’s a bit worrying, therefore, that the goalkeeper is experiencing a new calf discomfort.

According to RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, Maignan experienced discomfort and will thus sit out tonight’s clash between Gibraltar and France. Lens goalkeeper Brice Samba will start in his place, but it should be underlined that this is merely a precaution.

Anto Vitiello adds that it’s not the same calf that Maignan struggled with this past season. The initial tests have come back negative, meaning he hasn’t torn his calf, but the medical staff will monitor his situation closely. For now, the feeling is that it isn’t anything serious.

  1. Here we go again.
What is Deschamps doing to our GK?
What is with Maignan and his calves?
He is getting injured way too much for a GK

      1. I know I have the cheeky laugh emoji for the commenters here but tbh I think it might be a good time to sell.
Maybe switch with Onana who is also one of the best with his feet or Unai Simon for the ungodly reflexes
