Maignan struggled with a serious calf injury in the middle of the 2022/23 season but fortunately made it back in to help Milan in the Champions League. It’s a bit worrying, therefore, that the goalkeeper is experiencing a new calf discomfort.
According to RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, Maignan experienced discomfort and will thus sit out tonight’s clash between Gibraltar and France. Lens goalkeeper Brice Samba will start in his place, but it should be underlined that this is merely a precaution.
Anto Vitiello adds that it’s not the same calf that Maignan struggled with this past season. The initial tests have come back negative, meaning he hasn’t torn his calf, but the medical staff will monitor his situation closely. For now, the feeling is that it isn’t anything serious.
