RMC Sport: Milan have ‘contractual agreement’ with Fofana but competition builds

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Youssouf Fofana have a ‘contractual agreement’ in place but now negotiations with Monaco must reach a meeting point, a journalist has claimed.

Fofana has been linked with Milan since the start of the summer window as Geoffrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani have identified him as the right reinforcement for the midfield, while his deal runs out in June 2025 making him a classic ‘mercato opportunity’.

Given the fact that the team let in 69 goals across all competitions last season, there is not only the need to solidify the defensive line itself but also for it to be better protected, and Fofana profile capable of playing in front of the back four.

According to what is being reported by Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport, Fofana and Milan have ‘reached a contractual agreement’ over a four-year deal, therefore one that would run until the end of June 2028.

The Rossoneri ‘must now negotiate with AS Monaco’ to agree a transfer fee for the 25-year-old France international, but the competition that is beginning to mount should give them a sense of urgency.

Manchester United and a club that plays in the Champions League remain attentive to the situation of Fofana as per the journalist, implying they are ready to pounce if Milan don’t tie things up quickly.

  1. This was always going to happen. The whole strategy of “get the player to agree and then relentlessly lowball their club in the hopes that the player will refuse to go anywhere but Milan until the club eventually cracks and gives you the player for a bargain price” simply has a terrible success rate.

Clubs have options, players have options. Somebody is going to come in and make a real offer. They need to abandon this ridiculous bad faith approach to making deals.

    1. So your philosophy would be. Pay whatever the club is asking, then negotiate with the players and hope he joins?

  2. EPIC FAILURE – IF – United snatch Fofana right from under us…

BUT i can already hear the Redbird lovers excuses: “why would we pay more than 12M for a player that is free next season….”

    LOLOLOLO – 🤡 show

  3. This is what happens when you move so slowly in the transfer market. No one has patience with you to finish the negotiations, no one waits well for their turn. No, there will always be others stepping in with their offer and if you don’t move fast, don’t know what you want and drag things out you will always end up losing. Galliani was famous for negotiating in secret, he knew well what his target was and when he acted to make the transfer it was a blitz in one day, he went and came with the player, he did not give time to his rivals to act. In a negotiation, you don’t announce to everyone in the press what you are going to do weeks in advance and who you want to transfer. The transfer must come as a surprise to your competitors.

  4. La Gazzetta dello Sport reported late last night that Monaco and Milan have agreed on 14 million + bonuses for Fofana, but that they are still negotiating about how much the bonuses will be. Hopefully they close the deal today at 14+5 or 14+6.
