RMC Sport: Maignan left feeling gutted as efforts to make World Cup fall short

Mike Maignan feels disappointed to have been left out of the World Cup squad by France head coach Didier Deschamps, a report claims.

A report from  RMC Sport (via MilanNews) talks about Maignan and ‘one of the biggest disappointments of his career’ as the former Lille man Maignan tried in every way to recover in time for the tournament in Qatar, but he will not participate in the World Cup.

The Milan goalkeeper was denied the possibility of playing in his first World Cup because Deschamps did not see it fit to call up a player who has been out since 23 September due to a calf injury and is not yet back at 100%.

Maignan intensified his efforts in recent days with the aim of at least getting a spot on the plane and then being assessed from there, but he was not summoned and as per the report he has ‘felt the blow’ of his exclusion.

  1. Am sorry for Big Mike, but understand Deschamps decision. Without a recovery time it’s a risk being call up, more given the little time to prepare for matches.
    Forza Mike, come back stronger.
