Roback speaks out after going missing: “I haven’t been feeling well lately”

By Oliver Fisher -

Emil Roback has spoken out after the strange situation that emerged involving his loan club IFK Norrkoping, revealing that he suffers from depression.

The news emerged from Aftonbladet earlier in the week as they reported that Norrköping cannot get hold of the Milan loanee Roback and sporting director Tony Martinsson has been trying for two weeks to contact him.

Then, Gianluca Di Marzio reported that the Roback case has been resolved. They spoke to player-side sources and ascertained that the Swedish forward has returned to the Norrkoping training centre.

Now, La Gazzetta dello Sport have relayed the words of Roback who spoke to Sportbladet about what he was going through and his return to Norrkoping.

“I didn’t want to see anyone except my family. I suffer from a form of depression,” he said.

“I haven’t been feeling well lately. In fact, very bad. I didn’t want to go out or see people, only my relatives. I felt like my head wasn’t in the right place, so I closed in on myself.

“It probably wasn’t the right thing to do, but it happened that way. Depression? I think it’s that, but I’ve never experienced it before.”

The club also put out a statement, which reads as follows: “Emil has finally reconnected with the club, however he is going through a bad period in his life. Despite this, the player has announced his return to the field and Norrkoping wishes him good luck!”

  1. You are one of few player Ibrahimovic impressed with, not only him Milan invest big money on you if you don’t want to ruined your career you have to be careful with what you are doing 👂

  2. I haven’t felt good since i hit 15. You deal with it. You singed a contract and shît is expected from you. It’s called being an adult!
    My 2 cents

    1. Spot on man. He is not a kid anymore, he needs to know how to deal with the pressure. Ibra praised him, and we know he rarely praises anyone. He needs to show his worth.

    2. Im not saying he shouldnt have handled it differently which he deffently should have done but anyone who has actually been diagnosed with depression would know it isnt that simple but i actually do as ive been suffering with depresion since my late teens and trust me it has caused a lot of issues in my life and if it was as easy as you suggest well then my life certainly would have been a lot better.

      1. Men. Depression, anxiety and then some.
It’s not easy..but using it as an excuse won’t get you anywhere. I learned that the hard way.
So yeah… People that can’t “hack” it are either lazy or just pute incompetent.
And again my 2 cents, for people like me (and maybe you) if it wasn’t depression it would’ve been something else. We’re just that mentally vulnerable!

        1. Well i respect your views but i strongly disagree in regard of people just being lazy or imcompetent as there is also difference in severety and for example someone suffering with winter depresion and someone wiíth cronic depresion in combination with other mental illnesses,. Theres also interior and exterior reasons so its a bit like a roller coaster but i do agree though that people should try to fight to better their situations but if things was as easy as you suggest then people with mental illnesses woud generally choose to live without it but in the end i do agree that we are more mentally vulnerable than others,

  3. Hope he gets the help he needs. Not everyone can handle the kind of spotlight and what life throws at you at an early age. Makes sense that he wants to be with fam, it’s a comfort thing.
I’ve seen young players literally develop long term psychological and emotional issues simply from how competitive the system is and the way coaches coach.

  4. Depression could be career ending. The life of a Professional sportsman is really really tough. Hope he overcomes this and become stronger. If not I also wish him stay happy and healthy otherwise. And to some of you in the comment saying nasty things, I hope you don’t get to experience real depression in life.
