Sky: Roma’s $322m debt could push Zaniolo towards exit – Milan, Juve and Spurs observing

AC Milan have been linked with a move for Nicolo Zaniolo and Roma’s financial situation could force them to sell, according to a report.

Sky (via MilanNews) reported last night that the future of Zaniolo remains up in the air because Roma have not ruled out the idea of selling the 22-year-old, with Juventus and Milan are expected to send signals of interest to the player and his entourage, while Spurs boss Antonio Conte also likes him.

According to the latest update from Sky, it is not to be excluded that Zaniolo leaves the club this summer, even though manager Jose Mourinho considers the presence of Zaniolo as central to his three-year project.

He has used him as a striker alongside Tammy Abraham and believes they could be a complimentary pairing moving forward, but the final decision will come down to the will of Roma’s owners the Friedkins.

They have spent nearly $535m in 18 months as new owners and injected another $25m in January, with debt rising to $322m. If the team fail to get a place in the Champions League – which looks very likely at this point – they may sacrifice a player like Zaniolo to bolster the accounts given he would generate a pure capital gain.
