Romagnoli discusses arrival at Milan and captaincy; thanks Berlusconi and Galliani

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli admitted the journey he has been on has been ‘long and complex’ while speaking at the Primavera Christmas party.

The Rossoneri’s annual youth sector party was held in the executive hall of San Siro on Wednesday night, with players from both the male and female junior teams present.

In addition to that though, some of the senior management – like Paolo Maldini – attended, as well as some of the senior squad like Romagnoli, Gigio Donnarumma and Davide Calabria.

Romagnoli was named as the club’s captain after Leonardo Bonucci’s departure last August, with the 24-year-old having come through the academy at AS Roma before being bought by Milan in 2015 after a successful loan spell at Sampdoria.

The Diavolo’s No.13 spoke to those present at the event, conveying the message that hard work is key in order to achieve your dreams.

“It was a long and complex journey. Last year was my fourth year at Milan,” he said, via Calciomercato.com.

“There was no figure who could fill the role [of captain] and I could only accept.

“My arrival at the Rossoneri? For me it was exciting. It was a great challenge. I have to thank Berlusconi, Galliani and Mihajlovic who wanted me strongly despite me being 20 years old.

“Milan is one of the most decorated teams and all players would like wear such a glorious shirt.”

He also spoke to MilanNews.it about the party itself, about the game against Sassuolo and the future for Milan.

“It is an occasion that Milan has every year, it allows these children to meet their idols. The hope is that they can become like us in the future,”

On his Serie A debut: “It was a beautiful day, I hope my career lasts as long as possible.”

On the draw with Sassuolo: “We were hoping for a different result, we hoped to win, we have to improve as we are doing then we will see at the end of the year.

“Being the captain of such a glorious club is an honour for me, I am very happy to be, I will try to give myself to help the group pursue the goals.

“Atalanta? Milan have the obligation to win every game, Atalanta are a very strong team, they did great in qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League, we have to go there to play the perfect game.

“We know our value, we are a young but very strong group. We regret that our start to the season was not the best but we will do everything to get as high as possible.”
