TMW: Negotiations over Romagnoli extension start from a difficult position – the reasons

AC Milan face an uphill negotiation if they are to convince Alessio Romagnoli to extend his contract at the club, according to a report.

Gianluca Di Marzio (via MilanNews) reported last night that negotiations have begun for the renewal of his contract as Milan want to extend his deal. The management plan to make him an offer, but it remains to be seen whether it is deemed appropriate or not by the player and his agent Mino Raiola.

TMW reports that the six-year relationship between Romagnoli and Milan could soon be interrupted, given the expiry of the defender’s contract in June and the delays associated with the negotiations for an extension.

Over the last few months, the player has lost his feeling of importance within Pioli’s project and this seems to have influenced the parties involved. Other clubs have expressed an interest but Raiola has not closed the door on an extension just yet.

Milan do not want to give Romagnoli a raise on the €5m net per season he currently earns so a renewal seems unlikely, but between now and June it is possible that the parties will talk again.
