Romagnoli reflects on ‘special’ Scudetto win: “They counted us out from the start”

Alessio Romagnoli lost his starting spot during this past season, but he remained the captain throughout and he got to lift the Scudetto trophy in the end. A win that the centre-back is very pleased with.

Romagnoli’s future is very uncertain as his contract with AC Milan will expire at the end of next month. It’s possible that he has played his last game for the Rossoneri and one could argue that the Scudetto success is the perfect note to end on.

Speaking to Sky Italia, as cited by MilanNews, the captain shared his thoughts on the special Scudetto win and what made this team so special. He reiterated the fact that no one believed in them at the start of the season.

“We are still celebrating, the Scudetto is something special. What made a difference compared to Inter? Definitely the determination. They counted us out from the start and named Inter as the winner, but we knew our strength and we always continued to fight.

“In the derby, we suffered a lot for 60 minutes, then after we came out on top, we won a great match because Inter are a very strong team, there we had the awareness that we could do something extraordinary,” he stated.

As said, it remains to be seen what will happen with Romagnoli this summer, with rumours suggesting that he could join his boyhood club Lazio on a free transfer. In any case, he has always been very professional and respectful at Milan.
