Romagnoli’s foul set off Lukaku-Ibrahimovic row – how the brawl in Inter vs. Milan came about

By Oliver Fisher -

It seems as though the verbal bombardment that Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave each other had been brewing for a while.

As MilanNews recalls, towards the end of the first half – with Inter 1-0 down and Milan in control of the game – Lukaku was fouled twice in quick succession, first by Franck Kessie and then by Alessio Romagnoli.

The Belgian was visibly annoyed at the latter, and he got up and pursued the captain for a few metres. The two began to exchange verbals will Lukaku getting more and more wound up, and Alexis Saelemaekers – his compatriot – tried to calm the Inter forward, but the latter refuses to shake his hand.

At that point Ibrahimovic intervened, and that went quickly form simple disagreements to heavy insults. The referee Paolo Valeri did not manage the situation in the best way at all and completely lost a handle on things, so he whistled for the end of the first half.

As the players then walked towards the tunnel, Lukaku further lost his head looking for a direct confrontation with Ibrahimovic. His team-mates stopped the Inter striker and everything was over. It must be noted though that Lukaku was the instigator.
