Romano: Botman ‘wants’ Milan over Newcastle; no talks on over Aston Villa midfielder

By Oliver Fisher -

Newcastle United have made a big bid for Sven Botman but the player would rather join AC Milan, according to a report.

It has been documented by numerous media sources that Milan and Newcastle are battling it out to sign Botman from Lille this summer, with doubts about who is ahead in the race and what official offers have been made, if any.

Fabrizio Romano has told Que Golazo’s podcast (via Transferzone) that Newcastle are indeed pushing for Botman and have submitted a bid of €40m plus add-ons to Lille, which is ‘tempting’ for the Ligue 1 club. However, the player ‘wants a move to AC Milan’.

He went on to give an update on a story that broke yesterday by claiming Milan ‘are currently not in talks’ to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, despite his agents being spotted at Casa Milan yesterday after a meeting with the management.

  1. Yes, Romano is one of the few journalists who can be trusted. It does not cross the line between the truth and the false publicity that most media outlets today use for self-promotion.

      1. The point is that no matter what the reports say/write it doesn’t matter. No matter how many articles Romano wrote that Botman wanted Milan he still ended up in Newcastle.

  2. The problem are AC Milan can offer 30m euro include add on while newcastle offer 40m euro + 5m euro add on, thats big different. We must play patience if want to sign botman since newcastle in hurry to sign defender, we must wait till newcastle not interesting buy botman

  3. Bro sign botman sanches and De Ketelaere three players that want to sign to Milan because they are fans it’s good to have players that want to wear the shirt like maignan so you saw how it turned out to be same as tomori so please sign them and then if u want players at least two experience on loan and belotti because he’s free

  4. Am reading Botman has signed for Newcastle. Deal to be formally announced at the weekend.

Can anyone confirm? If so, these delays have really cost us.

I understand not every fan is keen on us spending a significant portion of our budget on Botman, but I’d rather have him for €30mn then Acerbi for €5mn and be in the same / worse position next year when Acerbi and Kjaer are both over the hill.

Botman would have likely become an appreciating asset.
