Romano: Camarda in line for call-up vs. Fiorentina after Okafor injury blow

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have another injury to deal with as Noah Okafor has sustained a muscle issue, and now Francesco Camarda is expected to be called up at the weekend.

As we reported earlier today, Okafor suffered a thigh injury during Switzerland’s recent game against Romania and the MRI scan carried out yesterday upon his return to Milanello highlighted a lesion to the right hamstring.

That means Milan have just Christian Pulisic, Samuel Chukwueze, Luka Jovic and Luka Romero available out of their forward group for Saturday’s match, given Okafor’s absence, Rafael Leao’s injury and Olivier Giroud’s suspension.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Milan are considering calling up the 15-year-old Primavera striker Camarda to be part of the first squad for the upcoming game against Fiorentina.

Camarda has seven goals and two assists this season across 13 appearances with Ignazio Abate’s side, including three UEFA Youth League goals scored against PSG and Newcastle United. Romano adds that a new deal will be offered to the striker soon.

  1. Injury crisis is ridiculous!!
I think we use Romero on the left, Pulisic down the centre (Chuck right) and keep Camarda on the bench. Pulisic can then cover either of the wings when Camarda comes off the bench (assuming he/Pulisic doesn’t pick up an injury).. the only other option is Jovic starting (which is scraping the barrel)

  2. Novice is the obvious answer. Against his former team wanting to prove a point. At least we don’t lose our shape. Chukwueze looks lost enough as it is.

  3. It’s encouraging to see Camarda get his chance but then you remember he’s 15! He’s still physically a boy. I’m sure he’s technically gifted and can ball out, but he’s just hit puberty. The physical aspect I worry about, hopefully this isn’t detrimental. With that being said, we need to fire the entire medical staff. Every single one. And Pioli too.

  4. Oliver please answer this question of mine, isnt there still a ruleset where players of the age of camarda still needs dispensation from the figc to play for the first teams ? That was the case for both donnarumma and even though mastour never got his debut with us he sat on our bench which he actually also got dispensation to do and both players was older than camarda currently is.
