Tijjani Reijnders of AC Milan

Romano: ‘Discussions start’ over Reijnders renewal – why Milan are interested

Tijjani Reijnders has often been pivotal for the Rossoneri since joining last summer, and AC Milan are looking to extend his stay at the club already.

Whilst the Dutchman has often found himself in the starting lineup, he has rarely had a set position in the lineup, due to the widely covered lack of depth in the midfield. However, this has not been an issue for Reijnders, given he stated his ability to play every midfield role in a press conference earlier this week.

Milan, therefore, have looked to utilise this, and with the summer signing of Youssouf Fofana, the best of the midfielder is being unlocked. Given he can impact the game from deep, whilst having the freedom to attack due to Fofana’s more defensive positioning.

It does not come as a shock then that the Rossoneri are looking to renew Reijnders’ deal –  which does not expire until 2028 – as a reward for his good performances and to show a sign of his importance to the team.

As Fabrizio Romano stated this morning, the Diavolo are beginning discussions with him and his camp, and whilst there is ‘no rush’ the club see him as a key part of the project and want to reflect that.

  1. “Tijjani Reijnders has often been pivotal for the Rossoneri since joining last summer.”

Very bold statement. Unless “often” means two or three times. Being a starter in this depleted midfield is no achievement. But he can play very well sometimes. A lot more consistency at his best level is needed.

    1. Considering the level of players we have today (apart from Pulisic who’s a star name), there’s no one exciting from this 200 millions worth bunch that would represent an actual added value. So sensationalism and overhype is best they can do.

    2. He’s clearly not the finished product and has improving to do, but the fact that you don’t even recognize the talent there to begin with is hilarious, B.

Shot of tequila before each post please, pumpkin.

      1. Maybe you just watch Milan and don’t remember what a good midfielder is. I understand that you like him, he seems very likeable, but it’s just your emotions. Tell me when he was “pivotal” since his arrival one year and a half ago, besides the derby and the Bruges game? I’m waiting for an answer from the Reijnders bandwagon for a year and am still looking for it.

        1. Define “pivotal” because in the Milan games I watch he contributes in every single game when he’s not being ejected. Drives the ball vertically better than anyone in this team …

      2. Bro, the dude is 26, thats basically what you currently see is exactly what you get. Sure he can improve a little until 27 but he’s in his prime years….and this is close to the finished product if not already…..
