Romano: Fofana facing ‘important few hours’ as Milan ‘want to push’ for a deal

Youssouf Fofana is the top priority for AC Milan now, and the French midfielder only wants a move to the Rossoneri, but a deal is not that simple, unfortunately.

The mercato is always a difficult time of year – frustration, excitement, the mercato has it all. This has been the case for Milan, and whilst there can be excitement about the arrival of the three signings who have already joined the club, there is frustration about the one who hasn’t.

All summer, the Diavolo have pursued a defensive-minded midfielder, and for most of the summer, the player in question has been Youssouf Fofana. However, for most of the summer, the reports have not provided positive updates with Monaco proving difficult to negotiate with.

In recent days, Manchester United entered the race to sign the Frenchman – joining other Premier League teams in the race – but Fofana only has eyes for Milan as Fabrizio Romano has reported on his X account.

After Fonseca further confirmed that the Monégasque midfielder was the club’s top target, Matteo Moretto reported that the player is facing an ‘important few hours’ with the Rossoneri wanting to ‘make a push’ for their number one target.

The player and the club, only see each other, but whether Monaco will allow them to come together this summer remains to be seen.

  1. IF Fofana decides to finally accept offer from United or other Premier League club, that – with giving Kalulu to Juventus for peantus – would be the stupidest Milan’s mercato in years. Hard to beat that 😉

    1. Every year new players arriving

After De Ketelaere transfer, it should be obvious to everyone that spending all fee on 1 player is not so smart

      1. But we’ve already secured a striker, a defender and a right back (whom we didn’t even need).
It’s not like we’re spending all our budget on a single player.
Plus, if we don’t want to spend 25M€ on Fofana, we should move on to another DM and we’re not seemingly doing that.

    2. Don’t fool yourself. By far the stupidest mercato in years, was the summer of 2022 mercato. During the banter era there were better mercatos than that one. Between losing players like Kessie and Romagnoli for nothing to signing Origi, CDK, Dest, Vranckx. Literally none of those players contributed even a little bit. Thiaw was the only somewhat bright spot.

      1. CDK would be a beast on the right coach. while Oroghi was injured when he came dunno why management sign him just bc he’s UCL winner hyped team

        1. CDK was given to a coach that didn’t know how to use him and signed for a system that he didn’t fit in. = Stupidest transfer mercato in years.

          1. They probably forced Pioli to accept a 35 million CdK although he didn’t want him. Just ignore the interviews where Pioli said himself many times that player’s recruitment strategy was shared and agreed between everyone.

And again, who was our chief scout giving recommendations back then? Right.

          2. @Ted
“And again, who was our chief scout giving recommendations back then? Right.”

The same chief scout that has been giving recommendations since December of 2018. Theo, Leao, Maignan, Bennacer, Kalulu, etc. Same chief scout.
But as is usual with fanboys, When transfers turn good it was because of the infamous M&M, but when transfers flop it’s the chief scout. Ha ha ha.
We sure know that the chief scout was against the signing of Origi, though. Can’t pay someone to take him.

          3. @🔴⚫

Well my lad it is you who’s implying M&M are to be blamed for poor recruitment, when I’m giving you a fact, it was everyone involved. That’s what the coach himself told many times. And it’s you who’s doing the cringy twist of words now calling me a fanboy. Pathetic.

And again, you’re making stuff up in your head and then present it as a fact. How do you know that chief scout was against Origi? I can only assume that’s Geoff fanboy speaking out of you.

      2. Well, I agree with you for the fact that after Mercato it turned out it costed Milan scudetto – after winning it instead of securing spot of being the best Italian team, they simply gave that title away.

But at the time of mercato some moves made sense – Ketelare despite long negotiations seemed to be new Kaka, Origi seemed like a solid substitute for Giroud, Thiaw seemed like a defender with potential and they even managed to grab last minute Dest as replacement from Barcelona. Obviously it turned out that almost all of that group were not really improvements for the team, but it made sense at the moment of mercato.

        1. Don’t bring context to the discussion. These guys don’t like it lol 😂
Ppl fail to forget at the time CDK was probably the hottest prospect around in Europe at the time. Origi was one of the best player to come off the bench to score in the EPL and Europe. He literally was brought to be an impact player off the bench but he somehow didn’t carry the form and didn’t work out. Bad mercato? At the time of those purchases, with little money mind you, it was quite decent. In the longer term, the recruitment looked bad. Still got to the UCL semi. Last year we spent 130m,. Spent money once again in players that looked good at the time…. got knocked out of every competition by January. Now, same as last time around we’re questioniong quite a few of those transfers. We once lost Sheva in a transfer window, won the UCL the same season. That’s just how these things go.
