Romano: ‘Here we go, soon’ – Fofana to Milan now ‘one step away’

AC Milan are now very close to signing Youssouf Fofana from AS Monaco after an improved offer was submitted, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Fofana saga has certainly dragged on longer than the Milan management probably hoped for, but they have always remained confident that Monaco’s resistance would be lowered and that they would eventually land their No.1 midfield target on more favourable terms.

According to Fabrizio Romano,  Milan are closing in on the Fofana deal and the Frenchman is now just ‘one step away’ from becoming the fourth signing of the summer, after Alvaro Morata, Strahinja Pavlovic and Emerson Royal.

The journalist states that the Rossoneri ‘improved the structure of their bid’ and that an agreement with AS Monaco is now ‘very close’. Work is in progress to get the deal done this week, and Fofana ‘only wanted Milan’ from the minute they came forward.

He also adds that there will be the famous ‘Here we go, soon’, and it seems as though Milan will indeed get the man that they have wanted for months to add some defensive presence to the midfield department.

Thiago Scuro, Monaco’s Director of Football, commented on the Fofana situation yesterday and suggested that a move was close given his lack of involvement in training and preseason games.

    1. I don’t believe for a second that this implies 7 incoming, but we desperately need to offload/sell players first, especially if Fofana is incoming – we have two or three more players than we can register for the UCL at this point if he arrives I think.

    2. This will be Milan last signing. Kalulu and Adli will probably leave but no replacement for them will be bought since we have enough players in those positions. Only if Bennacer leaves another midfielder will be bought.

    3. This was a done deal, as soon as Fonseca said he was the prime target, he would have never mentioned Fofana unless he was 100% sure of signing, he would never have disrespected Monaco if the deal wasn’t done by talking about there player.

I think Milan management will seriously look at 2 market opportunities like Chiesa & Rabiot, but I think we will get Samardzic and that puts a smile on my face.

i thibk Broja or Tammy are posibilities as well depending on which is the better deal as they are both well suited to Fonseca style of play as thet are both fast powerful forwards

  1. So far, this management has impressed in the mercato… The zirkzee situation was also dealt with brilliantly on moral principles (we don’t want heartless agents blackmailing a historic club like us)… And now our midfield also looks complete…

    1. You are not allowed to say that Dani. You just have to hate on this ownership and management no matter how much they improve the team. After all the owner is American and only cares about making money, and the management got rid of the infallible Maldini, so you must hate and criticize them no matter what. Shame on you for saying they did a good job.

      1. Waiting on the likes of Ted, Bart and SJF to post something glass-half-empty even about this.

Probably about how long it took…

        1. Ted neutral , not defend management but also not hating them . Bart,Juro,Abdul seems like have maximum hatred to all owner ACM except berlusconi. No cure for them anymore . Even if ACM signed haaland now and hiring guardiola as coach that three will always find negativity on ACM

        2. No, they’ll be quiet on this now just like they don’t mention anymore about how they were screaming that this cheap ownership was going to sell Theo, Leao and Maignan. Or what a terrible signing Fonseca was. They’ll just pretend they didn’t say it and move on to something else to criticize.

  2. I guess he would be our last signing unless someone like thiaw leaves, although it seems unlikely now.

Milan now have 2 weeks to sell players and might sign another if there is a good opportunity to do so.

  3. Who are they going to sell ?

There is only 1 player who must go – Origi. Very big salary. But let’s remember players like Bakayoko, Dest, Caldara, Rebic etc…

If Fofana really arrives, then someone like Adli doesn’t have space. Unfortunately.
But I wouldn’t give Adli for free. At least 14 million must be paid.

If they bring someone else after Fofana, maybe we will have surprise exits. First Kalulu and then….who knows

    1. Origi’s only going if a large percentage of his salary is paid off by Milan, which is fair enough – the club’s mistake, not his. Seeing as he’s not even being considered for registration (same with FBT), it makes less difference if he leaves, but we need to sell at least one or two first team squad members too.

    1. Kessie wasn’t a DM the first we bought him. He was a b2b midfielder. I think putting Fofana up in the CM position as ball winning midfielder who has good technique with player like Bennacer or Tijjani playing deeper in regista role would make sense. Fofana is strong and capable of making challenge in midfield, so i think he can emulate what Kessie did with us.

    1. This thing is gonna take a minute to come together. I don’t expect Fonseca’s vision to hit the ground running, but his elements are already clearly there.

Overall, most positions we talked about here have been addressed. Questions remain whether Emerson is adequate enough as RB competition. Also whether we need another striker or will Jovic put his big boy pants on …

  4. Well… I hope so. And then we have time to do anything else in the remaining two weeks. Hope this is resolved before the weekend lol

  5. I think Adli & Pobega needs to go if they want to get regular playing time or one of them should stay should Bennacer leave for Saudi. Kalulu is likely to leave as and Saelemaekers is also an option to leave. We can get a good amount for them and get Chiesa (the dream) and Samardzic. I think we would then have a solid team with Italian youngster completing the squad.

    1. Fofana is confirmed. Him and Benny are two DM’s.

You’re right, Milan has some offloading to do with potential late swoops if opportunities present themselves.

    1. And where would you play this player who is coming off and ACL tear and requesting 6M per year when we have team star Leao at LW, 28M transfer fee Chukwueze at RW, and player of the 2023-24 season Pulisic at AM??? The only way he arrives is if he cuts his salary deman to about 2M, is exchanged for Salad, and clearly understands he starts off as a bench player. And even then, given what I’ve seen from Salad this pre-season, I think I’d rather keep him because having at least one defensive winger with high work rate will be useful.

  6. Beginning to have great expectations for the team this season. But, how good is our defense? Wish there was more experience at the back. Hope the coach can build a solid defense, as he has done with the attack.

  7. OFFICIAL: HERE WE GO from Romano.
The “glass-half-empty” crew can stop losing your collective minds now. 20 plus add ons. Doesn’t matte where you start – what matters is where you finish.

Hopefully Fofana has enough time to integrate quickly and not get a red card like VanBommel did on his debut.

    1. “Doesn’t matter where you start – what matters is where you finish.”

This. I bet the whiners are still “embarrassed” how this thing went, right? 😀 😀 😀
