Romano: ‘An Italian return’ – Milan could reignite Morata interest with striker set to depart after Euro 2024

By Ben Dixon -

Alvaro Morata has been a transfer target for AC Milan in previous mercatos, and this summer, the Rossoneri may have a chance to reignite their pursuit of the Spanish striker.

Given Milan are interested in recruiting two strikers this summer – a starter and a rotation – to play alongside Luka Jovic, there are many avenues to be explored, and one that could be pursued is Alvaro Morata.

The Spaniard has been a topic of interest for the Rossoneri in previous seasons, and he could present an intriguing opportunity for the club in the mercato.

As Fabrizio Romano (via Milan News 24) reports, the striker will meet with his current club, Atletico Madrid, after the conclusion of the European Championship and ask to leave.

Romano states he ‘wants a return to Italy at all costs’, and he has a clause in his contract which could mean he is available to purchase for as little as €12 million. Given the Diavolo have an interest in Armando Broja and have previously been interested in the Spaniard, the club may prefer to look at a more complete option that has a fantastic goalscoring record.

At the time of writing, he has scored one goal at Euro 2024 from as many appearances, but he also has 15 goals and three assists in 32 La Liga fixtures last season.

  1. I was actually wondering when we’re going to get linked with him, considering we’re linked with every other available strikers by the media lol.

    1. Not really. The model shown by management is cheap experienced proven winners – Giroud, Kjaer, Ibra, etc. and cheapish/ competitively priced younger players with lots of upside.

  2. Never liked him, id prefer us to bring back Ricardo Oliveira back from retirement.
Just kidding but this would seriously irritate me.

    1. Ricardo Oliveira omg the dude who was supposed to replace Sheva, what a failure! A friend of mine bought his jersey at the time haha how to waste 70€ 🙂

      1. At the time he signed for Milan, his father was kidnap and couldn’t focus .. he was a very good player and striker before the incident

        1. Damn I didn’t know that. Good reminder that these guys are also human beings first. And then we signed Il Fenomeno (!!!) so I guess he didn’t have many opportunities after that.

      2. To be fair his sister was kidnapped the same season so ill give him a bit of slack for not turning out as we hoped but he certainly is one of the worst acquisitions i can think of. I bet your friend learned his lesson and never bought a shirt with a name on again 😀

    2. I’m not kidding when I say I’d rather have R.Oliveira than him. I’ve always hated Morata. If he came back to Serie A he would really challenge Barella as the worst ballet dancer / diver in the league. Appalling. Makes me wanna puke every time I even hear his name.

      1. 😀 the guy is 44 or something then AC Milan can just as well hire me at 45 at least I’ll show some grinta before i collapses. Kidding aside I actually thought that there wouldn’t be many sharing my view of him as his name has often turned up in these comment sections. Never liked him, Dybala or Neymar and would love to harshly tackle them all 🙂

  3. why all these nonsense move. no matter how good he is I can never pray to get him he turned Milan down two times in favour of juve . CAPITAL NO

  4. I don’t think they need to get two more strikes after Jovic. Add one good one to Jovic and Okafor. Although Okafors primarily role should be LW , I believe he can do wonders in the center. Oh please not Morata !! Maybe it’s just me but the guy still always seemed nervous on the pitch like scared of defenders especially mean ones. You’ll see him running away from physical challenges with Bastoni or simply diving.
