Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC have reached a verbal agreement to sign AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud on a free transfer this summer.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the French striker has agreed on terms with the American side but has not signed a contract as of yet.
The news suggests that Giroud has made a call on his future, opting to pursue a move outside of Europe rather than sign a new deal with Milan.
The interest from LAFC has existed since October but they made formal contact last week to convince the Frenchman to join their project.
Giroud is out of contract with Milan at the end of the season so there will be no transfer fee for the Rossoneri to reinvest, although any fee would have been minimal given he is 37 years old.
It was already clear that Milan would be signing a new striker in the summer that would be Giroud’s replacement, but there is now more pressure on getting that transfer right given Giroud may not be there as an experienced backup.
It is thought that Giroud has taken time over this decision, with the thoughts of his family being at the forefront of his mind.
Good for him! I’m sure he will do well and enjoy the lifestyle.
He’s a great pro and has been a good servant to Milan.
It is however about time Milan had a starting striker in their prime!
He did well here, we shall miss him.
Thanks for everything, you helped us to back to one of the best team in Italy.
Now enjoy your life and pension at Murica, you deserved it! Super gentleman.
Thank you for everything, he helped the team a lot during crucial moments. Quite easily the most efficient signing of the last decade.
I wonder if he will do talk shows like Zlatan did when he came to Galaxy 😅
Would be hilarious to see him on Jimmy Fallon’s Show. hahaha
