Romano: Milan closing in on signing of Okafor – medical booked for Saturday

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are very close to agreeing a deal with Red Bull Salzburg over Noah Okafor with a medical already booked, according to a report.

According to the latest from Fabrizio Romano, Milan are closing in on deal with Salzburg to sign Okafor. Not only that, but there are medical tests booked in for Saturday and the player will arrive then, if all goes to plan.

The Swiss international has already agreed personal terms with the Rossoneri and he was on Stefano Pioli’s list of targets for the attacking department, the journalist adds.

The 23-year-old has played 110 games for the Austrian club, racking up 34 goals and 23 assists in that period. He scored against Milan in the last edition of the Champions League in Salzburg, giving them a 1-0 lead.

In terms of his role, he has played the majority of games as a centre-forward. He has 60 appearances as a striker, with 23 goals and 15 assists.

He will count as an EU player. Although Switzerland are not formally part of the EU, they are part of the Schengen agreement and the EEA.

    1. He will count as an EU player. Although Switzerland are not formally part of the EU, they are part of the Schengen agreement and the EEA.

    2. They are part of the ‘Schengen Area’, so Swiss players (like Norwegians and a few others) don’t take a non-EU spot.

  1. Wow, if this and Chukuweze get done over the weekend, it will have been a VERY impressive mercato. I’m frankly astounded, I was very cynical at the start of the summer.

    1. We will have addressed the long standing issues with the attack. However our midfield is now the concern.
Of the 3 players we had who won the title, Kessie is gone, Tonali is gone and Bennacer is out with a serious injury long term.
I’m not yet convinced that RLC and Reijnders offer us the balance we need, plus they will need time to adapt.
If we play 433 I only see Krunic as a viable holding player, so what is the plan?

  2. I mean he’s an exciting player to have but isn’t he more of an LW/SS than CF?

As far as I know he plays in two up front formation in Salzburg.

      1. Yes but still, he played up front with Sesko who’s natural ST. Okafor was more of an SS. Mostly played and drifted in from the wing

  3. I’m very confused if this doesn’t count as EU. Switzerland isn’t part of the EU and the UK counts as non-EU. Any clarification?

    1. You can refer to Oli’s comment above.

“He will count as an EU player. Although Switzerland are not formally part of the EU, they are part of the Schengen agreement and the EEA.”

  4. Now we must to sell Rebic and Origi as soon as possible !

Can you imagine not so long, we were watching Rebic can’t pass the ball and Origi was so flop !!!

  5. so this is what lumezzane’s coach said that an important player will come to Milan..let’s hope okafor would flourish here

  6. Is this as well as Chukwueze? I have to say, this Mercato has been crazy, and if everyone fits in and works out, what a team we have!

  7. Surely he’ll suit Milan’s style more than the forwards we’ve been connected with; such as Morata, Taremi, and such. Young and can still fully developed. Kudos.

    1. I think the opposite personally – if Giroud is out, we have no focal point or physical presence up top at all. Feels like preparing for a Leao sale!

      1. I agree with Ba. Pioli’s preffered style doesn’t need a focal point. He always says he doesn’t like to give points of reference.
Having a fast striker can open a lot of doors in terms of tactics.
We can keep Colombo as a third option who can offer more physicality if we really need it.
Okafor can also cover LW and RW. We need players like this in CL considering our squad depth will be limited in terms of numbers, due to selling all the italians.
I think he’s the best option out of all the supposed targets

      2. This is exactly my concern. He’s not natural ST as Giroud or targets we’ve been connected to like Morata. He’s more of an SS/LW player coming in from the flank. He plays in two upfront formation supporting Benjamin Sesko who’s natural ST.

      3. We may play a false 9 in a 4-3-3 in which car Okafor would be a good fit.
Pioli has said he doesn’t want any obvious points of reference in the side to remain more unpredictable.

      4. What I meant by style is on how we usually operate on transfer market. This move makes more sense. But regarding the player’s style, maybe Pioli has different ideas on his striker role for next season? With Ibra is also gone now. Maybe that’s why we also aimed for Morata for quite some time.

With that being said, I hope Colombo stays with us this season, and surely he’s capable to fill that ‘classic striker’ role every time we need to.

  8. Am i the only one that didn’t like this news?
I dont know why but i think we need striker who can hold the ball not the second striker like Okafor
He’s good but i think he suites more if we play two striker
And based on our mercato so far there’s no way Piole will change the formation with two striker

  9. Holy moly this news came out of nowhere.
But a great news for sure.
If milan can also sign chukuweze from villareal then milan’s attack next season going to be fast and deadly, not only from the front 3, but they also have fast midfielders.
I still hope they sign 1 more mid, musah or dominguez to complete the team

    1. Hahahahahaha!!! There he is!!! @Pioli oh damn ummm I mean @Boulden!! The kid dreams of sucking off Maldini lol. Can’t stop thinking about him lol. Poor little boy. How pathetic! Move on buddy!!!

Now for Oakfor – he’s decent. Not the player I was hoping for (Wahi) but he’s much cheaper at 13-14M so im sure that is the reason why. Not really a true number 9 but Let’s hope he can contribute. If anything he can play/cover multiple positions across the front line so im sure he will be useful.

Sign Chukwueze, Musah or Gravebach and get Singo for Messias and a backup LB and seems like we are done
