Romano: Milan ‘working on a deal’ to sign Premier League defender in January

AC Milan are working on a deal to sign Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly in the January transfer window, the journalist Fabrizio Romano is reporting.

Milan have found themselves in a crisis at the back with Simon Kjaer struggling to stay fit for a long stretch of games, Pierre Kalulu out for the next four months after surgery on a tendon problem and Marco Pellegrino out for up to six weeks after fracturing a bone in his foot.

That leaves Stefano Pioli with just Fikayo Tomori and Malick Thiaw to call upon for the time being, though Kjaer is expected back next week, and this has led to talk of a possible intervention in January.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on CaughtOffside’s Substack, Milan are plotting a move to sign Kelly from Bournemouth as early as the winter transfer window.

The Englishman is considered to be an interesting option not only for the future given he is only 25 but also for right now. Juventus are also being kept informed as Kelly is out of contract in 2024 with no option to extend with the Cherries.
