Romano: Milan on alert as there are ‘high chances’ of losing captain for free

Alessio Romagnoli’s contract will expire next summer and there has seemingly been no progress on the renewal front. Meanwhile, the captain has fought his way back into the team, also thanks to Simon Kjaer’s injury struggles.

As a result of Fikayo Tomori’s arrival in January, Romagnoli was quickly relegated to the bench and spent most of his time there in the second half of the season. At the start of this campaign, however, he has had a lot more space.

The defender, who’s also the captain of the team, has always been extremely professional and this is paying off now. Stefano Pioli has been able to rely on his qualities and this has perhaps made his future more uncertain.

According to Fabrizio Romano, in his latest piece for BenchWarmers, there are ‘high chances’ of losing Romagnoli on a free transfer next summer. Milan are on alert, therefore, and it remains to be seen if there is a solution to the matter.

  1. I guess he will go for free, except he changes his agent. I think relation between Raiola and Milan hasn’t been good. It would be better to Milan to have another prospect player to replace him.

  2. It really is too bad… if he stays we’d have our 2 starters for years to come and Gabbia to back up either who is more than capable and may even steal a starting spot eventually… losing hakan who cares. Gigio didn’t feel good, and nor will Alessio or Franck. Sucks.

  3. This should never have happened…same as hakan Donnaruma and Kessie…hope this is the last time we let someone leave for free. We must have a policy if they don’t resign year before their deals are up we sell. Romagnoli is gone to Juve. Too bad. He’s a good player (looks much better than last season thus far) but still not worth what he is asking (6-8M)
