Romano: Milan working on two ‘opportunities’ to strengthen the midfield – the names

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that AC Milan have two names that stand out above the others on their wish list for the midfield, with one being of particular interest.

Speaking together in a video on YouTube to talk about the mercato, Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto did a segment on Milan’s interest in Joshua Zirkzee and then moved on to speaking about potential midfield additions.

Romano (as relayed by Radio Rossonera) states that Mats Wieffer of Feyenoord could be ‘an opportunity’ for Milan this summer, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is a ‘different, more experienced solution’ but is ‘not so hot’ yet.

Moretto confirmed that he is on the list of the Rossoneri directors, who are attracted by the fact he is one year from the expiry of his contract. However, the Spurs and Denmark man is not a priority and rather ‘an issue that will be addressed towards August’.

On Hojbjerg, Romano added: “He wants to leave. He has hired Italian agents, this may be a sign of his desire for Italy. Then especially in January, when Napoli and Juve were there, he has always been very open to the Italian solution, so I believe that regardless it could be an opportunity.”

  1. Wiffer much preferred I think, not just because he is younger but Hojbjerg has been excellent for country but not club. Since we aren’t his national side I expect his form would also be questionable it seems he needs that extra motivation of representing his nation to produce his best performances.

Plus probably similar price tags around €25mn

    1. Thuram and Fofana are ball carriers. In case of Fofana he has been paired with Camara, Zakaria in Monaco and sometimes Tchouaméni and Camavinga in France, all of whom are more defensive than him.
They are good midfielders but we need true defensive midfielders, not box-to-box and ball carriers. Hence Hojbjerg and Wieffer.
So it’s good that they’re “for once” starting to look at defensive midfielders.

    1. Inter fan I was watching that game too he was more than disastrous all he know is back pass and he can loose the ball in dangerous position when they put him pressure he is nothing but pu*ssy

    2. Last season in Tottentham he was definetly bad but prior to that he was quite better with them and even had a decent amount of goals and assists, which ain’t bad at all. He is in a very high percentile even this season in the defensive and duel department and even in the forward passes according to datamb which isn’t bad at all considering he’s playing in Tottenham.
Maybe a different setting and different system in serie A will suit him better.
Anyways as far as I’m concerned, either him or Wieffer would be good enough. I’d still like an older more experienced player though who also played in a better league.

  2. Inter Fan: your Team is the Proud of Italy. Only real and City Are stronger! But I would prefer that Inter belongs to owners of Saudi—arabia. I have no really Trust in your owners. Only Rodri is a Little Bit better than your barella, respect

    1. Thank you for your kind words, much appreciated. I , and many other Inter fans, would like Saudi to step in and buy the club. In any case, I predict that Inter will keep competing for trophies, and Serie A will be more interesting next season. I would like Inter, Milan, Juve and Napoli fight for the Scudetto till the last day. There is the real fun of the game!

    2. “Inter Fan: your Team is the Proud of Italy. Only real and City Are stronger!”
Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad would disagree though.
