Romano: Pavlovic agreement ‘imminent’ while Fofana holds out for Milan move

By Oliver Fisher -

An agreement is imminent between AC Milan and Red Bull Salzburg over Strahinja Pavlovic, Fabrizio Romano has claimed, while Youssouf Fofana very much remains a target.

Milan’s summer mercato has been a slow one so far with Alvaro Morata the only new signing to arrive. This has led to some impatience among the fanbase, especially because there are various ongoing negotiations that the management seemingly cannot close.

According to Romano on X, an ‘agreement is imminent’ between Milan and Salzburg over Pavlovic. The centre-back has been clear with the Austrian club: he wants to join the Rossoneri after personal terms were agreed earlier in the month, and he is ready for a new chapter in Italy.

Meanwhile, Youssouf Fofana agreed personal terms with Milan weeks ago and he still wants the move. The Frenchman wants to play Champions League football but there is no agreement yet between Milan and Monaco.

Reports from France earlier today spoke of a €35m bid from West Ham but the player already rejected them a few days ago, with the London club now looking into other midfield targets. Now, the Milan management will look to reduce the gap between offer and asking price in the coming days.

  1. Only leverage we hold here is that Fofana wants us over a midtabke team like west ham. All the more reason we should put the money on the table, the man wants to win, not just money

    1. 35M? Are you serious? Better of waiting a year and getting him on free agent. If he wants Milan so badly. And his argument that he wants CL football. Monaco is playing CL next session

  2. Damn Premier League always on the way, big clubs in Europe should have no other priority than fighting their financial dominance

  3. We can just about fight off West Ham given our status/history and financial situation. However a massive wage from a more prestigious PL team and I can see him chasing them. Especially as Monaco will obviously accept a €30mn bid from another club over Milans what, €17mn ?

Really playing a game of poker here. I sure hope Furlani & co know what they’re doing because to many fans who arent sat at the negotiating table, they appear somewhat clueless.

    1. No UCL English team needs a player for Fofana’s position right now.
There’s only 4 English teams playing UCL each season.

      1. English teams have money for big squads, competition for places.

While I take your point not every UCL team want them, any of the top 6 or 7 teams are attractive to play for.

Plus I’m pretty sure the likes of Liverpool and Man United could use a solid midfielder like Fofana, especially if they are offloading Endo / Casemiro respectively

  4. Why not pay $30million? He wants to actually play for us. Didn’t we save money by not buying Zirkzee? We also sold Simic and Maldini.

  5. Fabrizo Romano says Pavlovic at Milan is done deal, I m glad to finally see some movement on the market. If Monaco really ask 35 mil for Fofana (I don’t believe is true) then we should just look somewhere else , 35 mil for a player in the last year of contract is a joke. I hope he leaves for free next summer

  6. We could/should have dealt with Fofana before Monaco’s owner rages, that’s why many complain that we are slow and get stuck for 2M€ or 3M€.
At least we’ve secured Pavlovic now, so less targets to focus on. I still think we’re wasting our time with Royal. That money should be used to secure a quality DM.

    1. Milan has a need for a RB and for a DM. They have money allocated for both positions since they are negotiating for both at the same time. How is it a waste of time?

      1. The DM is more important and more urgent, that position was literally left empty since Kessie’s departure.
For the RB, if we want to get a new one, at least try for a decent one. Don’t spend 15M€ on someone like Royal.

        1. RB is just as urgent need as a DM. Did you not see academy City players blowing by Calabria yesterday like he was a cone?
Emerson Royal is the RB Fonseca wants. Before Fonseca Milan wanted Thiago Santos from Fonseca’s old team Lille. Almost all fans don’t rate Royal, but apparently Fonseca does.

          1. And no fonseca doesn’t want him specifically. It’s just a name moncada gave him. The convo went something like this;

M – ‘Hey we’re getting Emerson not royal, you good?’

F – ‘I’ll try kalulu there see how he does’.

M – ‘OK brah, we’re getting Emerson not royal, good talk’

          2. Because of his season under Conte, he played almost every game at wingback. Fonseca likes to use the fullbacks almost like wingbacks, with the midfielders staying deeper. He has shown that he has the motor and technique to be physical with wingers up the field, recover into a back line, and keep the line. He is very good at it. Given the little time they will have together, he is a plug-and-play on the right. It’s a crucial role to making the defense work.

          3. There were also articles saying Fonseca wants to use Kalulu as a RB, so…
Again if we want a 7th RB, at least aim for a good one.
At the moment we have 0 DMs.

      2. We literally don’t need a rb, we’re fine there. 6 players for the position. All of them better than Emerson not royal

        1. Were you present when Moncada had this convo with Fonseca or the voices in your head told you this, because it was reported that Fonseca wants Emerson Royal.

“We literally don’t need a rb, we’re fine there. 6 players for the position.”

Really.? If we use your logic of having 6 players that can play poorly as a RB, then we don’t need a DM. We are fine there too. Bennacer, Reijnders, RLC, Musah, Pobega, Adli can all play poorly as a DM. Why buy another?
I don’t know why Milan signed Morata, when they have Jovic, Colombo, Nasti, Camarda, Lazetic and even Maignan, who could play as a striker, since he was a striker before he got moved to a GK.

          1. Seems like Royal is the name he want, if he want Thiago Santos Furlani would gladly accept it because Thiago will cost less than Royal

          2. Yes I was. In a way. I hacked moncadas phone. I’ve got all the inside scopes. Ofc I’m keeping them for myself. Tried selling them but them media houses are cheap

          3. And we literally have 0DM. You’re just showcasing your lack of knowledge of football again.. go take a something and go to sleep

  7. Looks like Emerson is also imminent. I’d prefer to have the money allocated to someone else. For example, the total of Pavlovic + Emerson could get us someone like Buongiorno. Also because there’s no clarity on our transfer budget.

  8. Both players are going to cause problems.

Fofana is yet another box to box midfielder that will leave a massive hole behind him.

Pavlovic will cause further confusion in defence and further delay establishing a first choice CB pairing and we now have a problem accomodating Gabbia, Tomori and Pavlovic.

I presume Gabbia, is has the disadvantage of being a youth plater, will be the one forced out in favour of the more error prone (but non-youth player) Tomori.

No doubt we’ll be back next summer (or a few months time in January) looking for another CB as we continue to leak goals due to not having a DM.

    Well done everyone.
