Romano: Udinese star ‘keen on move’ but Milan must sell before bidding

By Isak Möller -

Udinese’s star Lazar Samardzic is ‘keen on’ joining AC Milan this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano, as positive talks have been held in recent days. However, the Rossoneri must offload one of their midfielders first.

Milan have been heavily linked with the Serbian international in the last few days, with the interest also confirmed by Gazzetta dello Sport. However, given that there have been few departures so far, it’s clear the Rossoneri need to make the space for the signing.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano late last night, Samardzic is ‘keen on’ joining Milan this summer after direct talks between the parties earlier this week. The Rossoneri are now expected to sit down with Udinese next week to discuss the price tag of a potential transfer.

Before then, as the journalist concludes, Milan will have to offload at least one midfielder and the main culprits are Yacine Adli as well as Tommaso Pobega. These two are not in the plans of Paulo Fonseca and could fetch some cash.

Being a No.10, Samardzic would likely be the new starter in that role, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek taking a step down to where he started his Milan tenure. There should be more updates next week.

      1. That’s the thing Perez said when he sold Makelele, I think many can remember how well that one went.
We NEED midfielders than can defend, tackle, disturb the opposition’s play and those type of midfielders aren’t necessarly good passers in terms of creativity, key passes,… we already have midfielders who can create (not very well though).
Btw, Hojbjerg last season was in the 99.8 percentile in forward passes (The number of passes attempted by a midfielder, excluding backwards and sideways passes; normalized per 90 minutes.) and in the 86.6 percentile in terms of percentage of forward passes completed. He also was in the 98.9 percentile in terms of progressive passes (Completed passes that help the team significantly advance towards the opponent’s goal; normalized per 90 minutes.). Defensively he was in 90th percentile in defensive actions wons and in the 71 percentile in duels won. Not too bad for a Mr Back pass and mistakes I guess.

        1. Speaking of mr back pass 🤭 I heard Arsenal is interested in Reinjders.
Btw absolutely wonderful stats, it’s one of the reason id favour Hojbjerg too. Loved the Maka reference. That was such an ill fated move by Real. If u get a chance also check out Grujic too. He’s alsoup there in the percentiles. Btw Alfred Duncan is available on the free. As a backup he’d be excellent and he might also tick the home grown quote box too. Win win. He’s older though but he’s good. Will do the job and is not expensive

  1. If we get Fofana & Samardzic and keep Reijnders, Bennacer, Loftus and Musah then we would finally have 6 top level midfielders for the season.
Pobega has to go and maybe Adli. Salemaekers should be kept, let him fight for a place , he seems stronger and more confident after Bologna. Maldini ideally kept but his contract is running out so a sale might be needed.
Terraciano, Colombo, Jovic, Origi and Ballo-toure should go as well.
If Pavlovic arrives he should join Tomori, Thiaw and Gabbia and let them fight for a starting place , we should be set.

      1. To Fight for a place in training , to get your coach to change his plans and give you a start… And once given a chance as a starter, to take it by imposing yourself in the game.
Football is a constant fight against yourself and opponents … mental , emotional and physical .
If you have never played football at any somewhat serious level you wouldn’t know this.

  2. There’s no room for dead space in this team.

Regardless of Samardzic (and the thorn that father is), Milan need to offload Pobega, Salad and even Adli. I don’t see how any of them break into any significant minutes on the pitch…
