After the work in recent years, the Rossoneri had returned to the shallow waters of Italian football. Left to fight for the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana – though, this was more of a bitter reminder of the season, rather than something to be proud of.

A summer to paper over cracks

Instead, though, they went for experience, both in terms of the league and the club. Allegri returned, and with it, he brought a little optimism. With a summer of spending, this feeling only improved, as one would hope it would.
Opening the season with a loss to Cremonese was a major blow. Perhaps, despite all the changes, the Diavolo had not moved forward at all, maybe they had even regressed. However, some late mercato business reinforced some of that faith.
A positive place
Since then, Milan have gone unbeaten in Serie A, facing several of the top six in the process, and picking up some vital wins in the process, too.
Now, they sit just two points off the top of the table, and whilst there have been some frustrations in recent weeks with a few poor draws, there is still the optimism that the Rossoneri can continue this trend of positivity.
When they return from the international break, Milan will face Inter. If there was to be a fairytale written this sesaon, a win against the Nerazzurri – who they are now closer to than ever before – would only increase the possibility of this.
