RR: Pioli left irritated by a comment from Gasperini – the background

By Euan Burns -

Stefano Pioli was left irritated by a comment from Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini about penalty decisions after the Serie A clash between La Dea and AC Milan on Sunday night.

As has been reported by Radio Rossonera, some of Gasperini’s comments about the penalty decision that saw Teun Koopmeiners make it 1-1 at San Siro have angered Pioli.

Milan had gone 1-0 up thanks to a wonderful goal from Rafael Leao early on, but Atalanta were awarded a penalty after Olivier Giroud was adjudged to have kicked Emil Holm in the box as the defender went for a header.

Pioli spoke to the press after the match and said that the penalty was ‘soft’, whilst Gasperini said: “I have never been in favour of this type of penalty, but they have become frequent.”

Speaking to DAZN, he then also added: “We’ve got credit with Milan when it comes to penalties, so it turned our way this time,” suggesting that Atalanta have been wronged against Milan in the past.

These words were then put to Pioli and his response was: “Things like this bother me so much.”

That proved to be the last major action of the game which fizzled out in the second half.

    1. Gasper to make such a comment was very much disturbed at yesterdays result because all he expected was for Atalanta to dominate and instead he got one point which came from a lucky dive penalty and a ref who just has serial B qualities at best.
      Gasper got lucky again!

  1. Gasperini has always been one of those ppl who needs a punch in the face, been that way since before his time at Inter. When it comes to pettiness and complaining he’s worse than the special one

  2. It’’s too convenient for Gasperini to say what he said about the idiotic penalty that Orsato gave without even looking enough to the screen….!!
Things like this ruin the beauty of the sport and make thousand of people upset…
In the USA we never liked the use of VAR by large majority of ALL fun’s . This will make “soccer” unpopular for the American people.
