Sacchi claims Inter will not deserve Scudetto: “Winning by incurring debts means cheating”

By Ben Dixon -

Former AC Milan head coach Arrigo Sacchi has offered some harsh comments about the meaning of Inter’s imminent Scudetto in a recent interview.

This season, the Scudetto has been destined to head Inter since the early game weeks. Whilst Juventus offered a challenge early on, they have gradually lessened as the season has progressed and now sit behind Milan, who have had an exceptional start to 2024.

The gap between the two Milanese clubs, though, stands at 14 points, and with seven games left to go, it seems the trophy is all but lifted for Inter. Their Scudetto success could hurt the Rossoneri even more, given the possibility of lifting the trophy at San Siro when the two clubs play later this month.

However, the credibility of their successes has been looked into this season, with several reports offering worrying information about their financial situation. As a result, when speaking to Corriere Adriatico, Sacchi gave his opinion on the current state of the Nerazzurri’s finances, and how it affects their Scudetto – his words have been relayed by Football Italia.

“The trend in Italy is becoming that of wanting to get to the goal by being clever, it is not right. We need to get out of this situation. Otherwise, we will always remain in this state of crisis. Winning by incurring debts means cheating. Are Inter cheating? Yes.”

  1. A little out dated opinion but F Inter. Also given UEFA were so far up Milan’s butt when they couldn’t repay their vendor loan I can’t help but feel that when it comes to financial matters Milan is judged differently. F UEFA too!

  2. While I agree that more sustainable debt levels would be beneficial for the league overall, Sacchi was also a huge beneficiary of the era when Berlusconi splashed the cashed 🤷‍♂️

    1. Yep the era without FFP and owner are free to splash their money for their club. Even now ACM still have debt too , RedBird have huge debt 500-550m euro from elliot ,thats why furlani still there to make sure RedBird pay their debt

  3. For me the debt levels do not matter very much, as long as the owners can manage their loans. The big problem is FFP that sements the leagues and the European elite, and no new teams can challenge.

  4. Clubs without debt are unheard of. Just take a look at the premier league.
Even with Arab ownership the debt is just moved.
