Sacchi gives rating to Milan’s season so far and encourages ‘synergy’

Arrigo Sacchi has given AC Milan a positive grade for their season so far to this point despite the fact they are eight points behind Napoli in the Serie A standings.

Heading into 2023 Milan are fighting on four different fronts with the hope of capitalising on Napoli’s slip-ups in the league, reaching the quarter-finals (and possible beyond) of the Champions League, winning the Supercoppa Italiana and going deep in the Coppa Italia.

Sacchi spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport and he gave a grade for the season that the Rossoneri have had so far to this point, with his comments relayed by SempreMilan.it.

“Milan didn’t get good results in the friendlies, but the group knows what to do to launch the chase. Giroud and Theo Hernandez are vice world champions, they will transmit positivity and experience,” he said.

“The World Cup has not left any worrying aftermath for the Rossoneri. The fundamental thing is that Stefano Pioli’s group returns to being a team: Milan must be compact in order to be able to manage ball possession, to do the pressing action well, to encourage collaboration and synergy between the departments and, finally, to arrive at the internalisation of the game which must be the real goal.”

Milan have somewhat of a centre-forward crisis at present with Olivier Giroud on a post World Cup vacation, Divock Origi having picked up another muscle injury and Zlatan Ibrahimovic still continuing with his recovery.

“Is a centre-forward missing? It’s not a serious problem, it can be solved: the important thing is that the team isn’t missing. De Ketelaere, I’m waiting for him with confidence: now he has to get into the game, into the mechanisms. In any case I give the Rossoneri team a full 7.”
