Sacchi praises Milan and Pioli for ‘applause-worthy start to the season’

By Isak Möller -

Arrigo Sacchi praised AC Milan and Stefano Pioli in his editorial for Gazzetta Dello Sport this morning, stating that the Rossoneri displayed good character against Genoa. And the numbers speak for themselves.

Milan have won seven out of the first eight games this season and are thus first in the league standings with 21 points, two points ahead of city rivals Inter. Yesterday’s win against Genoa, therefore, was very important for the Rossoneri.

In his post-match analysis for Gazzetta Dello Sport, Sacchi praised Milan for the mentality they showed at Luigi Ferraris last night. He also spoke well of Pioli, who has managed to get his ideas across at the start of this season.

“Difficult match for Pioli’s boys, after their commitment in the Champions League. Milan fought a lot in Germany against Borussia Dortmund and the coach looked for new energy among those who had so far been used less.

“Cups, as we know, are wonderful to play, but you always pay a high price in terms of athletic and mental effort. I must say that in the first half, the three attackers were not very incisive: they almost never worried Genoa. But winning games like this is really important because it increases enthusiasm.

“The Rossoneri, all things considered, have won 7 out of 8 matches. In practice, they only made one mistake (and rightly lost) in the derby against Inter. An applause-worthy start to the season, especially considering the fact that the team had been heavily changed in the summer.

“This means that Pioli has worked well trying to convey his ideas, because the players have understood them and are putting them into practice. The overtaking of Inter, even if it’s too early to define it as decisive, has a specific weight that can be felt. Against Genoa, we saw character more than play. The team seemed a little too long (not compact enough) at times to me, but there is time to correct the mistakes,” he wrote.

Milan will face Juventus after the international break and they will be without the likes of Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez. It’s not ideal, but at least it looks like four players will be back in action then.

  1. I’m impressed how the team picked itself up after the Inter loss and carried forward full steam. Praise where praise is due – aside from the failure against Inter, Pioli has done well to regroup and push forward with this team.

Inter loss had the potential to become the 2-2 against Roma last season and send us spiraling. But there’s some sort of togetherness about this team that very palpable. Wining ugly, not giving up.

    FORZA MILAN ⚫️🔴

    1. Yeah. I think the lost against Inter was a blessing in disguise especially for Pioli and the new players. With that big lost, the new players will be more motivated to improved themself and also get more bonded with the old players. Which we can see we’re not yet have another lost after derby.

Beside, this new team is not just for the present but also for the future since many Milan players are still young. But how a team can improve themself and got stronger if they never experience lost?
It’s the same when we lost against Atalanta 5-0 back in 2019. After that, the team got better and better.

Sadly many fans always think losing is a completely bad thing. They never considered that losing means there’s still room to improve and get stronger.

      Forza Milan

  2. Sacchi mentions something important. Winning games like this is good for morale. We need to collect the points where expected because these are the games that define the season. Pioli should continue to integrate the fringe players to build confidence because the season is still a long way to go. We will need Okafor, Chuku, Jovi l, Adli to be sharp and step in come the Italian Cup. The games are coming in thick and fast and we cannot have a repeat of last season when Milan looked out of sorts without Leao and Giroud.

    1. the way they celebrated together. for so many new guys to come together this quickly is worth the price of the heart attack.

  3. Yes we do look out of sorts without Olivier Giroud..
But hey good news we have him ..Better news we will win the scuddeto with him ..
He has not only amazing experience but complete confidence in his own ability…
The reason he has done so well is that he has never doubted himself..Onto more good news more goals will come from him again soon ..never ever write this man off ..Another plus not appreciated is just how good a manager pioli is …Pulisic and Loftus cheek what amazing signings they are …He has kept belief in tomori ,,,what a defender he has become ,,,he has also kept belief in Rafeao leao ,,,while so many doubters among you .
Will you all celebrate when we win the scuddeto..
    Come on start believing …
