Sacchi highlights the three key qualities that mean Milan are ‘already European’

By Oliver Fisher -

Former AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi has heaped praise upon the current team for their style of play, claiming that they already have a ‘European’ style.

Sacchi gave an interview to the newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport about the Rossoneri, and he revealed his belief that the squad are quite deep and they have multiple players in each position able to come in and fill the gap if there are selection issues.

“They are young, they have enthusiasm, they have courage and with the organisation – both corporate and in the team – they fill the gaps. This is how we must think,” he said (via SempreMilan.it).

“Milan are already European: they play with a pure system, two defenders against two forwards. When they lose one due to injury, another enters from the bench and hardly anyone notices. I am thinking of Kalulu or Gabbia. It means that there is an idea of the game that, little by little, has been understood by the collective.”

Sacchi has always been full of praise for Pioli and the work that the Rossoneri coach has done in two and a half years, given that he has transformed the team from one battling for the Europa League to being in the Champions League and fighting for trophies.

The merits are also due to the management too, led by the excellent work of the director Paolo Maldini and the sporting director Frederic Massara, without forgetting the support of CEO Ivan Gazidis.

The positivity is with the fans too, as over 50,000 tickets have already been sold for the game between Milan and Empoli on Saturday night.
