Saelemaekers admits Milan ‘needed three points’ from ‘difficult’ Roma clash

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan clinched one point away at Roma earlier this evening after Alexis Saelemaekers scored a 97th-minute equaliser, three minutes before the home side opened the scoring. After the game, he spoke to the media.

It was indeed a crazy ending to what otherwise was a very dull game. Milan and Roma both struggled to create chances and the goals were their first respective shot on target, which says a lot.

Speaking to DAZN after the game, as cited by MilanNews, Milan’s saviour Saelemaekers shared his thoughts on the clash. He came off the bench in the 55th minute and, as said, managed to score the crucial equaliser.

On the equaliser…

“An important goal, but the team is more important. It’s a shame we didn’t get the three points because they were very important to us. We are happy with the point, but we needed three points. But now let’s focus on the end of the season.”

One shot on target…

“The details made the difference. A very difficult match, it was difficult to find space… Anyway, 1-1: let’s look at the next games. We have to move forward”.

Milan will face Cremonese next and even though the draw is important, it is indeed two points lost for the Rossoneri this evening. At least Roma won’t have a head-to-head advantage over them, meaning goal difference will decide if they were to end up on the same points.
