In a somewhat surprising turn of events, yesterday evening AC Milan announced the contract renewal of Alexis Saelemaekers until 2026.
The Belgian international arrived at the San Siro in the January transfer window in 2020 before the Covid-19 pandemic and ever since he has grown immensely, becoming an undisputable starter in Stefano Pioli’s line-up.
Thanks to his fine form for the Rossoneri he also became a regular in Belgium’s national team, having also recently scored his first international goal in the World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic.
And all this has not gone unnoticed by the Milan management, who decided to reward Saelemaekers for the progress he has made in the past couple of months with a new agreement that binds him to the club until 2026.
And the player himself is clearly very happy about his current moment as well as the somewhat unexpected contract renewal, given that it had almost no media exposure in the last couple of weeks.
“The Salamandra remains! I am delighted to continue my story with this great club that has welcomed me and which made me feel immediately important,” he wrote on his Instagram account.
“It is a wonderful emotion that I wanted to share with all the people who have accompanied me on this journey and in particular with all the Milan fans who are special.
“I am proud of my growth which has gone hand in hand with the team. Now the goal is always the same: work, grow and win! Forza Milan! God is great!” Saelemaekers concluded.
