Alexis Saelemaekers spoke to the media ahead of AC Milan’s game against Udinese this evening, commenting on the change of formation by Massimiliano Allegri.
The defeat against Napoli was a pretty big blow for Milan, who had to give up second place in the standings, so a response is needed today. The Rossoneri have won their last four games against Udinese, but the Friuli side have caused issues at San Siro before.

Just a few minutes ago, Saelemaekers was interviewed by DAZN (via MilanNews) and as you would expect, he was asked about the 4-3-3 formation. Instead of playing as a wing-back, the Belgian is listed as a right-winger for this one.
Are you playing as a winger today?
“Ultimately, I don’t think the position will change much. I have been attacking and defending a lot since the start of the season, but the player behind me has changed. Athekame is more attacking-minded.
“I’m always focused on helping the team get the three points, which are very important for us today. I will give everything to push the team to the maximum.”
What did Allegri ask from you?
“Nothing will change in the defensive phase, I have to do my job as usual. In attack, with Athekame being a bit more attacking, I will drop inside a bit more. We will alternate positions.
“Having said that, our characteristics ultimately won’t change much. Today, the most important thing is the mentality we need to bring to the table to win.”
After the lacklustre display against Napoli, it’s clear that something needed to change and it remains to be seen if the formation change will do the trick. A win would put necessary pressure on Napoli to succeed against Parma tomorrow.
