Saelemaekers discusses ‘positive’ UCL energy and previews Salernitana clash

By Isak Möller -

With less than 30 minutes left until kick-off between AC Milan and Salernitana, Alexis Saelemaekers spoke to the media. The Belgian is in the starting XI tonight, replacing the injured Junior Messias.

Messias sustained an injury in the game against Tottenham and Saelemaekers came off the bench then. He’s now the first choice on the right flank and he will be hoping for a good game this evening to boost his confidence.

Speaking to MilanTV just a few minutes ago, as cited by MilanNews, Saelemaekers shared his thoughts on the success in the Champions League and tonight’s game. He stated that it won’t be a walk in the park for the Rossoneri.

On qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions League…

“I think it was positive for the team. It was important to continue with what we were doing. We passed but now we have to be focused on this match.”

On the game…

“We know that Salernitana are never easy to face, they’re a very strong team. We have to be attentive and do everything we’ve worked on in training this week. Today I feel very good, if I can help the team with a goal I’ll be happy.”

On his position on the pitch…

“For myself and Messias, it doesn’t change much. We have to help more in the defensive phase, but we’re ready to do it.”

The 23-year-old hasn’t found the back of the net since the game against Dinamo Zagreb in September and Milan will be hoping that he can break the drought as soon as possible. Messias, meanwhile, has scored two goals this year.
