Saelemaekers discusses Scudetto belief, return from injury and De Ketelaere’s struggles

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan winger Alexis Saelemaekers has revealed that his first start since coming back from injury went well, and his is itching to get back in competitive action.

It has been a difficult couple of months for Saelemaekers as he sustained a knee injury in the dramatic 3-1 win against Empoli earlier in the campaign which has forced him to miss a decent chunk of games.

That injury came after a positive start to the season in which he scored in the first two Champions League group stage games, but he is now back to near full fitness and scored in the friendly defeat to Liverpool yesterday.

Saelemaekers spoke during an interview with Sky Italia about a number of topics from his appearance yesterday to the struggles of his compatriot Charles De Ketelaere, with his comments transcribed by PianetaMilan.

On his physical condition: “I’m fine, I’ve worked a lot after a difficult period. Yesterday I put in a good performance and I didn’t feel anything bad. We had a good training camp and are ready for the season to resume.”

On whether Milan believe in the Scudetto: “We believe in it, we have to believe in it. We have to live every match like a final until the end and then we’ll see where we are.”

On De Ketelaere: “It hasn’t been easy for him in the last few months, but the break made him recover, seeing his family was important. Now I see him clearly, he will be important for us in the second part of the season.”

On Mihajlovic: “It’s something difficult for all of us, those who know football know that he was a great player and a great coach. I’m sorry and my strength goes to his family.”
