Alexis Saelemaekers came off the bench last night and was one of the most impressive performers during the 4-0 win against Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Calciomercato.com report how the real big surprise of the night was not Brahim Diaz’s excellent performance nor Rafael Leao returning to being his best but rather how Saelemaekers looked after coming off the bench.
Saelemaekers’ season so far has been split between his form in the Champions League – with two goals scored in four outings – and difficulties in the league. However, he got his first Serie A goal of the season last night after an excellent dribble to get past multiple defenders, and he nearly added a second.
The Belgian knows that he has to do more to guarantee his spot in the plans for the future, especially given the rumours last summer.
Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig were interested in the event he could leave, but it was never even considered by Saelemaekers who is under contract until 2026 and has the trust of the entire staff.

To me he’s among the best dribblers in the club. What always lets him down is his poor kicking technique. It was such a great, Messi-esque goal..but let’s admit it, he should have shot it in a better course. He could have scored another one, again after another (even better) solo manouvre, but his shot was predictable and the course was too close to the GK.
I agree that the boy always had tricks, especially if you observe him in training/warm-up. But he’s scored some neat goals too, and in my opinion, that shot was great, curling away from the GK and toward the post. It required a top-quality diving save and earned a corner – good output, given the circumstances. And while the goal-scoring shot last night definitely required some luck, he was under pressure from the defenders and stringing some moves together, so it wasn’t an easy one.
Where I think Alexis often fails is in playing simple football and just maintaining composure throughout. He was on fire yesterday and played his cards well.

Not really. Only a decent shot as it was on target. It should have been 1m higher and THEN it would have been great (and a goal too). Now it was at the perfect height for the keeper to save it.

Sell away, first he couldnt get a spot vs Castillejo then vs Messias now even Diaz gets a green before him. Milan can double what they gave for him this summer..
He is still 23 y.o. For Gods sake. You need to give him time to flourish.
