Italy’s U19 national team got off the mark in comfortable fashion on Monday evening as they beat Serbia 2-0.

Italy played their opening game at the U19 European Championship and won 2-0. The Azzurrini are off to a flying start, facing Ukraine and Croatia in their next two matches, hoping that they can top their group. There was some Milan influence, too.

Milan duo shine

Emanuele Sala – as the captain of the side – delivered a commanding performance in the middle of the park, winning 6/9 duels, 3/4 tackles with 6 defensive contributions, and 5 recoveries (SofaScore data).

He had 52 touches, completed 76% of his passes, and displayed great organisation and intelligence in distributing the ball. Ruben Amorim wants to watch him closely during his preseason retreat after showing strong growth in 2025-26, MilanVibes confirm.

Christian Comotto , on the other hand, remained on the pitch for 70 minutes, completing 2 key passes, with an 82% pass accuracy rate, looking to move the ball through the lines. He also made a significant defensive contribution, with 4 duels won and 6 recoveries.

Italy were led by a proactive Mattia Liberali, and broke the deadlock after 11 minutes with a penalty. Given the reports that emerged last night about a possible return to Milan, it might have just been the Rossoneri’s midfield trio of the future that were in action for the U19s.
