Mayor Sala claims Milan and Inter are ‘certainly interested’ in San Siro plan

By Oliver Fisher -

The Mayor of Milan Beppe Sala has once again claimed that AC Milan and Inter are interesting in exploring the idea of renovating San Siro, with an answer to come in the next couple of months.

Milan and Inter have both made public their intentions to leave their current home in favour of new stadiums in San Donato and Rozzano respectively, but this seemed to wake the City Council up as they scrambled to keep the clubs at San Siro.

From that a project was launched with the plan to save the nearly 100-year-old structure as they enlisted the help of WeBuild, who pitched a €300m project that would bring the iconic venue up to the level of a modern stadium.

Sala spoke as he was arriving for a Metropolitan Council meeting and he was asked about the plans to bring San Siro up to modern standards, with his comments relayed by Calciomercato.com.

“If this operation will happen, we will understand in the next 2/3 months, no more. I believe that the clubs are certainly interested in the option of renovating San Siro, even if at the moment there is no news. Inter and Milan are continuing to examine the other options they have,” he said.

    1. Great to find some experts in Italian politics around here man, it would be interesting to have your research and analysis on that topic. Or are you just generalising the entirety of Italian politics because of a football stadium issue?

      1. I’m really glad you asked. I am especially tickled by that research and analysis part that you know full well no one is going to do it on a website dedicated to football and AC Milan. Not because they wouldn’t know how, but because a deeper analysis of the subject would require hundreds if not thousands of pages of texts and graphs to even scratch the surface.

But you already knew that, which is precisely why you posted what you posted. Nice effort though, I dare say you have a bright future in politics.

        1. I’m starting to think Bartholomeo might be an expert on everything under the sun and possibly more. All hail Bartholomeo the great omnipotent, graceful and full of wit. You are an example for us all

  1. Delusional. Only Inter may be interested because they are not so invested in the new stadium, but Milan definitely will not take the renovation

  2. I appreciate the resilience of the major. He never gave up. Real Madrid just renovated Bernabeu to perhaps the best stadium in Europe. Barca is doing same with Nou Camp stadium with work already started. Man U just yesterday they may renovate old Trafford stadium. So, if same can be done to San Siro, fine. It is an option ESPECIALLY if the stadium will be sold to Milan and Inter .

    1. Those clubs own their stadiums, that’s the difference. The council aren’t going to renovate the San Siro then sell it!

  3. Really? the same management that is stuck over 1 million Euros for an average player like Emerson Royal is interested in dropping the San Donato project after spending 40 million Euros for it?
The only reason Milan would pay attention for the San Siro renovations plan is using it as a plan B in case the San Donato project collapses, NOT accepting it because it could possibly be better than San Donato. Nothing Sala does will change that.
I reckon it’s the same for Inter.

      1. Don’t get it twisted, I’m not rooting for them to make the renovation. I’m just saying, if they decides to consider the renovation, it could be for the benefit of the futuro
