Mayor Sala claims Milan and Inter are ‘certainly interested’ in San Siro plan

The Mayor of Milan Beppe Sala has once again claimed that AC Milan and Inter are interesting in exploring the idea of renovating San Siro, with an answer to come in the next couple of months.

Milan and Inter have both made public their intentions to leave their current home in favour of new stadiums in San Donato and Rozzano respectively, but this seemed to wake the City Council up as they scrambled to keep the clubs at San Siro.

From that a project was launched with the plan to save the nearly 100-year-old structure as they enlisted the help of WeBuild, who pitched a €300m project that would bring the iconic venue up to the level of a modern stadium.

Sala spoke as he was arriving for a Metropolitan Council meeting and he was asked about the plans to bring San Siro up to modern standards, with his comments relayed by Calciomercato.com.

“If this operation will happen, we will understand in the next 2/3 months, no more. I believe that the clubs are certainly interested in the option of renovating San Siro, even if at the moment there is no news. Inter and Milan are continuing to examine the other options they have,” he said.
