Mayor Sala praises selection of new San Siro designer and re-iterates the ‘deadline’

Mayor Giuseppe Sala believes that AC Milan and Inter picking Norman Foster to design their new stadium is a positive step.

It was reported earlier in the week that the two clubs have made a decision about the designer of their new home, which they hope to build next to the current San Siro. Foster will work with Manica, the studio already chosen by Milan for the stadium in San Donato.

Norman Foster won an international competition between some of the top studios in the world. Inter and Milan closely evaluated 13 of them and have selected five finalists, and the official announcement should soon arrive.

Sala was present at an event at the Guardia di Finanza barracks, which were being named after Silvio Novembre. The Mayor spoke to journalists present about the future of San Siro, with his comments with MilanPress.

“I must say that I was not even informed of the idea of entrusting the project to Foster , but it seems very positive to me,” he said.

“I repeat, the deadline is November 10th before the constraints for the superintendency work come into force. However, we are moving to try to finish everything in the summer. There is a close dialogue, I am optimistic but there is still work to be done.”

  1. What was wrong with the prior designs? It’s confounding how this project always seems to be going back to square one…
