GdS: Same system, new important pieces – how Milan could look in 2026-27

This summer’s mercato should be a lot simpler for AC Milan than last year’s. Ultimately, they just need to improve, rather than tear up the floorboards and start again, and it is showing.

The expectations for this summer are that Milan will have somewhat of an easier job than last year. Rather than needing a complete reset, they can, in theory, just raise the bar, whilst adding a few squad players for depth.

It shouldn’t, at least on paper, be too challenging. In fact, reports already suggest that Massimiliano Allegri wants a 27-man squad to use next season, so adding four players to this squad – maybe more if some leave.

Two changes for 26/27

Gazzetta dello Sport, with this knowledge, have taken a look at what the squad could look like next season, as seen below.

In terms of changes, it is not massively different. Indeed, nine of the starting 11 are current players – though, this comes with the caveat of Luka Modric extending, which is an ongoing priority for the Rossoneri.

Partnering with him and Adrien Rabiot, though, would be a new man, Leon Goretzka. The German has been heavily linked for a few months now, and he would fit the profile that Allegri would like to complete the trio.

Interestingly, the front two may be left as they are, rather than a top-level striker arriving. Instead, the other change would come at the back, where Mario Gila could arrive.

The Spaniard has been a long-standing target for Igli Tare, but it seems that the Diavolo could face problems bringing him to San Siro, with several Premier League clubs interested.

  1. Fofana, Ricci, Jashari, Modric, Rabiot, Comotto

We need 1 more midfielder… Milinkovic-Savic would fit the bill. Rapport with Tare, can play multiple roles and is ready to play right away

    1. silly question. if we keep asking for a new CF, where would he go? Assuming Rafa stays. say what you will about their current slump and attitude but Rafa and Puli are our two best (most talented) players. Do we bench one of the two players that basically carried the team the past few seasons? Do you sit a midfielder? who? . If we do get a CF, Allegri must find a way to have Puli, Rafa and the new CF on the starting 11

  2. Let’s talk about Vittorio magni ( Milan academy ) for Right winger, so Alexis can improve in the midfield. If Milan no new man for striker, let’s improve in the midfielders. Sign world class playmaker who can make more assists + goals. Thats important for 3-5-2 system.

Don’t forget to sell leao if he not grown up !

  5. Gazetta is missing the point (or any common sense) again. The point is to improve wing play and CB quality to be able to field 3 up front.

Goretzka (however unlikely it would be) would elevate the midfield. But our wingers are still limited.
