Paolo Scaroni has expressed his bafflement that some political figures want to oppose AC Milan and Inter’s new stadium project.
Milan and Inter are waiting for Monday, which could determine the future of the new San Siro project. It will be a crucial day because it will be the day the City Council will vote on the sale of the stadium and surrounding areas to the two clubs.

Today’s Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanPress) reports that the final vote is still unknown. Approval requires 25 votes, and the majority is currently split in two. The opposition – aware that Giuseppe Sala will not resign even if the vote is against the project – has yet to decide whether to abstain or vote.
Should the board approve the sale – which must be finalised by November 10, the date the San Siro second tier restriction comes in – Milan and Inter would then face the numerous appeals that would likely pass through court.
Scaroni comments
Milan president’s Paolo Scaroni commented on the future of San Siro to the paper: “What’s at stake is the future of Milanese football, including which cup finals will be held in Milan.
“I don’t understand who would oppose a project that would relaunch the future of football in Milan. It’s not a question of politics; we all lose in this story.”
Do not underestimate the level of stupid that could still come into play here. Sala, for one, appears to be aligned with AC Milan and Inter. As the article correctly calls out, much of the rest of the vote is yet unknown. If those interests attach themselves to societal projects disguised as “architectural history” to avoid a sporting investment, anything could happen.
