Gimenez sheds light on recovery, pressure and Allegri’s advice after making return

Santiago Gimenez made his return during last night’s win over Torino, and he believes he can make a contribution in AC Milan’s season finale.

Gimenez hadn’t played a competitive match since 28 October 2025, in Bergamo against Atalanta, 144 days ago. After an operation to fix an ankle issue that would not go away and a period of rehabilitation, El Bebote recently became available again.

Massimiliano Allegri chose to throw him into the fray with 13 minutes left during the game against Torino, with the scoreline at 3-1 in Milan’s favour. Torino would pull one back from the spot, and Gimenez didn’t have much involvement as the mission became hanging onto the lead.

The former Feyenoord man spoke to Sky Sport 24 after the final whistle to reflect on his return to action, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

How are you feeling?

“I feel good, and I think that’s the most important thing. After a long period of ups and downs, I’m back on the pitch. I’ve had several problems with my ankle this season, and I think I made the right choice to stay healthy. If I’m healthy, I can help my team better.”

Do you feel pressure?

“No, I don’t want to put any pressure on myself. I just want to help the team and win: that’s the most important thing. The goals will come: I just returned from injury and my main goal is to help the team, the goals will come.”

What does Allegri tell you?

“I think Allegri is helping us forwards a lot: both in the way he wants us to score goals and in the way he wants us to play for the team. I think he’s happy with us, he always tells us that.

“I was putting a lot of pressure on the coach to get me back early, but it was a good decision to rest me and come back for this match.”
