Santos president reveals how Juventus won the race for Kaio Jorge despite renewal offer

One of the most long and drawn out sagas of the summer seems destined to end with Santos striker Kaio Jorge joining Juventus and not AC Milan.

As MilanLive writes, the Jorge affair ended yesterday as Juventus reached a definitive agreement with Santos over a €3m deal that will see the Bianconeri beat the competition in particular from Milan and Benfica. For Santos there was the risk of losing the 19-year-old striker on a free transfer in January 2022 given that his contract expired then.

Today, the President of the Brazilian side – Andres Rueda – explained the evolution of the negotiation and how he has ended up at Juve. Speaking to SportMediaset, Rueda made it known that he had proposed a renewal to Kaio Jorge weeks ago on attractive terms, but it was refused.

“I had offered him 20% of the proceeds on the future sale, 20% to his agents. All feasible with a proposal worth more than 15 million euros. It was tempting, but he decided to decline. We needed to find a solution,” he said.

“Benfica had come forward with conviction. Juve has arrived and made us an interesting offer: a fixed part, bonuses that can be reached with the Champions League and 5% on future resale. Furthermore, Santos maintains the pre-emption on a possible return of Kaio to Brazil, even on loan.”

It is worth noting that Milan were not mentioned despite the widespread reports that personal terms were agreed and a bid was made.

  1. He may end up being good but there’s other promising young strikers out there. No need to over pay for a dice roll.
