Sarri discusses ‘very difficult’ tactical battle with Allegri in Lazio-Milan

On the eve of Lazio-Milan, Maurizio Sarri shared his thoughts on the Rossoneri and what will be needed from his side to clinch all three points.

After a tough season so far, definitely held back by the transfer ban in the summer, Sarri and Lazio need to turn things around with what would be a strong win tomorrow. Not that it will matter much for the standings, currently in 10th, but confidence is very important too.

Ahead of the game, Sarri spoke to the media at his pre-match press conference earlier this afternoon, as transcribed by LaLazioSiamoNoi. He admitted that it will be a difficult game as Milan are rather sneaky, and also confirmed that they are hoping Alessio Romagnoli will make it in time.

What kind of Milan side do you expect?

“Milan have very clear characteristics, they impress even when they don’t seem in control of the game. Great technical and physical qualities, so it’s a game in which we cannot allow them too much open play.

“They have devastating acceleration, but then we also cannot push them into the penalty box. Tactically speaking, this is a very difficult game.”

What is the status of the injured players?

“We are trying out Patric and Taylor in midfield these days, then we will see when we finalise the starting eleven. We will be trying to get Romagnoli back until tomorrow morning, but the situation isn’t exactly simple.”

Did you expect a Modric to be this good in Italy?

“Modric is a monster of humility. He’s someone who, at his age, fully embraces the game and does so with incredible dedication. He seems to be someone who always gives his all, even defensively; he’s one of the greatest players of this era.”

It remains to be seen which manager will win the tactical battle. Massimiliano Allegri also highlighted during his presser that Lazio, and specifically Sarri’s teams, are very difficult to face because they are so organised.
