Sassuolo star Ismael Kone has admitted that he is not sure where he will be playing next season amid interest from AC Milan.

In the past couple of weeks, Milan’s interest in Kone has been spoken about by several sources. Massimiliano Allegri is reportedly a big admirer of the Canada international, who could join to help replace Youssouf Fofana and/or Ruben Loftus-Cheek as part of a midfield refresh.

Sassuolo for their part are a club that sells for the right price, but they might ask for counterparts in the deal. In the meantime, Fabrizio Romano confirmed earlier in the week that there is a €35m release clause in Kone’s deal, which both protects the Neroverdi and potentially invites suitors.

‘I don’t know’

Kone spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published this morning, which mentions in the introduction that both Milan clubs and Roma are keen on the former Marseille man. The Rossoneri also got a first hand look at him on Sunday in the defeat at the Mapei Stadium.

Many teams like you. Where will you play next year?

“I’ll be honest: I don’t know. We’ll see what happens, but I’m focused on what I have to do. I’m happy to be at Sassuolo and to have the club’s trust. Then there’s the World Cup.”

At 23, you are preparing to play in his second World Cup while your Italian peers (and even the older players) are at zero…

“I’m very surprised Italy’s absence because your national team is very talented. I’m happy: I played in the World Cup in Qatar with about twenty professional matches under my belt. Now I have more awareness. Three months ago, I didn’t realise how big an event we’ll be experiencing and hosting.

“The last time I was in Canada, I felt the general excitement. I can’t wait for it to start because the team has grown and so have I: I know how much I’ve improved in these four years, and I thank God for giving me this opportunity again.”
