Scaroni aims dig at Milan mayor Sala: “We have left the world of hope”

By Isak Möller -

The Milan mayor Beppe Sala has desperately been trying to convince AC Milan to change their mind regarding the stadium. However, as was confirmed by Paolo Scaroni yet again today, it won’t happen.

Milan and Inter had been working on the Ssn Siro project for several years when they decided to call it quits. Now, when the Rossoneri have a concrete plan for the San Donato area, Milan mayor Beppe Sala has reappeared.

He has been on quite the media campaign in recent days, it seems, among other things bad-mouthing Milan’s project in San Donato. Speaking at Festival dello Sport, as cited by Luca Cilli, Scaroni shared his thoughts on the project.

On the project…

“Milan’s will be the most beautiful stadium in the world. I’ve been talking about stadiums for 5 years, it’s now a mission. People on social media now call me Paolo Stadioni. It gives you an idea of how much I talk about it. We will occupy an area unused for any other purpose but suitable for building a stadium. We are on the right path.

“RedBird are super-specialists in the construction of stadiums, they have built many in America. This is also why we have the duty to make a wonderful one. We owe it to our many fans around the world.

On the capacity…

“The capacity will be 70k, our average in recent years. The stadium will also be available on days when there is no football event and we will carry out all related activities such as restaurants and sports-related shops. We are following – 20 years too late – what has already been done in France, Germany and Spain. We are only aligning ourselves with these nations to remain competitive. We have left the world of hope, so I believe that the season in which the new stadium could be inaugurated is 2028-29.”

One can only agree with Scaroni. Milan don’t have time to wait for Sala and his council, especially since there are no certainties from his side right now, only ‘I hope the teams will reconsider San Siro’.

  1. Tell it how it is Paolo. Stay the course. Sala will lose the next election because of this blunder, Milan will be in a new state of the art stadium.

    1. Sala is doing a lot of good things in Milan, where most people don’t care about football in their everyday life. Now if he’s not reelected, it won’t be because he refused to spend public funds for a stadium or because he didn’t sell San Siro for a bargain. In the end I guess they will find a way to recycle the stadium or a loophole to transform it in residential areas.

      1. There were never any plans to use public funds, but now the city will lose out on more than just the rent that they will no longer receive.

      2. Redbird already announce that they dont want use public funds. Sala are desperate atacking the ACM project in san donato. You can see his interview in this site. Sala will losing vote from ACM fan but i hope he is elected again as Milan mayor so he can watch ACM move to new stadium at 2028

  2. The burns keep coming lol 😂😂😂 “We will occupy an area unused for any other purpose but suitable for building a stadium” “RedBird are super-specialists in the construction of stadiums” this is after Sala said they can’t build there. Yo I’m dying of laughter 🤣🤣🤣🤣
On a serious note, let’s hope the project goes well 🙏

  3. Skip Sala and his council. Nobody want to consider rent san siro forever . ACM already late 20 years from England ,Spain,Germany club in term of stadium. Just ignore whatever Sala & his council saying and accelerate building new stadium

  4. Some italian officials would rather their legendary football teams remain behind other teams in europe because of their stupid agendas.

  5. “The capacity will be 70k, our average in recent years”

That is because the safe capacity of San Siro had been reduced to around 70k. I wonder what the average would be if San Siro can still accomodate 80k.
