Paolo Scaroni has confirmed that AC Milan consider it an option to build a new stadium alone without their neighbours Inter, and also gave an update on Mike Maignan.
It feels like a decade ago now that Milan and Inter formally announced their plans to construct a new state of the art stadium together to replace San Siro, but they have been hit by constant delays and the typical Italian bureaucracy that so often halts projects that will bring a big benefit to the city.
Scaroni was present at the presentation of a book on Milan written by Maurizio Lupi, leader of ‘Noi moderatei’ and president of the Milan Club Montecitorio. He spoke to the reporters who were there, and he began by discussing the new stadium project, with his plans relayed by MilanNews.
“We are bringing forward three projects in parallel. One is that of Sesto San Giovanni and another I won’t say, it’s a wild card. If we don’t do it at San Siro, we’re also willing to do it alone. We won’t give up, I assure you that the Milan will have a new stadium,” he said.
“The first one that is unlocked we will throw ourselves at the fish. Milan collect 40 million from the stadium. How can we compete internationally with such low revenues? Therefore we absolutely want the new stadium.”
However, the Rossoneri brand is growing…
“We will generate 60 million in cash, we are in good shape. The brand continues to grow. We are the most famous Italian club in the world. They pay us little for sponsorships because the league is considered Serie B.”
The moment of the team, however, is critical…
“Remember that we are second. We are playing badly, but we are there in the standings. I still remember Atalanta 5-0 Milan. Four is better than five. We like winning the Scudetto, but we want to advance in the Champsion League.
“I have good news. Goalkeeper Maignan will be back for the Champions League.”
And on Zaniolo?
“He’s a good player.”
