AC Milan and Inter are both eagerly awaiting the next step of the new stadium process, and the new San Siro is getting closer.
If the plans are to be believed, we are only five years away from the opening of the new stadium. In football, that can feel like a lifetime, but in reality, it is not too long at all. There is a lot to do before then, though.
Plans for the stadium need to be finalised, and then construction needs to begin. We may be close, but the stadium is nowhere near being ready to open.
So, a little while since the last update, Paolo Scaroni gave an update today.
Scaroni’s San Siro update
Speaking at the during Stadi 5.0, Calciomercato.com relays the president’s word on the new stadium and why Inter’s involvement is key.
“The Meazza? Now the games are visible, and we’re all fond of it: but those are the only things that are working well. Accessibility, dedicated spaces, security, and many other things a modern stadium must have aren’t working.”
A new stadium…
“It will have 71,500 seats, so we will maintain the current capacity. And we will improve on what English, French, and German stadiums currently offer. It will be a vertical stadium, with spectators even closer to the pitch than they are now.

“It will look even better. In the next few weeks, I expect to receive the first proposals from the architects. Why build it together with Inter and not alone?
“It took us seven years to build a new stadium, who knows how long it would have taken us to build two in Milan… from this point of view, working together was a good solution, also because Inter and Milan have the same needs and this simplifies everything.”
Timing is focused on, but there can be no denying that the price of the operation certainly lent a hand.
