Scaroni on the mercato: “I am sure that important things will arrive in the next few days”

AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has backed Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara to do good work on the market and revealed he expects movements in the coming days.

Milan defied expectations in many ways when they beat city rivals Inter to the Scudetto last season, winning their last six games of the campaign to take advantage of the Nerazzurri’s slip-up against Bologna which came at a vital time.

However, heading into the 2022-23 season it seems that the expectations are now raised and the stakes are higher. Not only is the mission to defend the Scudetto and get a second star on the shirt, but also to get through the Champions League group stage and thus reach the knockouts.

Scaroni spoke to Milan TV before the friendly match against Lemine Almenno at Milanello about the Rossoneri’s mercato and the upcoming season, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“We had some fantastic weeks after winning the Scudetto. We all remember the crowd of cheering fans. I found great enthusiasm in Pioli, who is always ‘on fire’, the players are coming from holidays,” he said.

“By Friday they will all be here and we will start again for the new season. I expect Maldini and Massara to carry out their projects and strategies on the market and I am sure that important things will arrive in the next few days.”

On the players who arrived: “They will integrate well. Everyone helps each other and this is the key to the success of last year and that we hope to have also in the one to come.”

On the new season: “Last year’s success is the result of a patient construction that began four years ago. In 2018, Milan were at their lowest terms in all respects. There have been some great professionals who have matured and integrated further. We are optimistic. One of the objectives is to get through the Champions League group stage, we are confident and we have all the ingredients to do well.”
