‘Optimistic and full of hope’ – Scaroni discusses Scudetto chances and Allegri’s impact

AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has revealed that he is ‘optimistic’ about the Scudetto chances, but insisted top four remains the aim.

Milan sit top of the pile after 14 league games, but things are very tight at the top. In fact, they only have a goal difference advantage over last season’s champions Napoli who are second, while city rivals Inter are just one point behind.

What inspires confidence is the fact that the Rossoneri are 13 unbeaten in Serie A, and that in that stretched they have recorded wins over Napoli, Inter, Roma and Bologna. The most recent victory meanwhile was a comeback from 2-0 down, which demonstrates the spirit within the group.

‘Full of hope’

Scaroni was interviewed by Class CNBC and he was asked about affairs at Milan in addition to business matters, more specifically the idea of going for the title and the impact Massimiliano Allegri has had.

Are you dreaming of the Scudetto yet?

“When people talk to me after a weekend with a hard-fought win like the one against Torino, I naturally look ahead, I’m optimistic and full of hope.

“The fact remains, as I say and Allegri says, that we have one goal: to be in the Champions League next year because Milan must always be in the Champions League.

“We are a global team, we have 400 million fans around the world, we must be on the stage of world football that is the Champions League.”

What has Allegri brought?

“In terms of coaching, I believe that having experienced, competent coaches who have seen a lot and who spread an atmosphere of serenity and optimism like Max Allegri is a key element. And just as he instills serenity in me, I’m convinced he also instills it in the team and all the staff.”
